You'll arrive at Keflavík International Airport and get transferred to your accommodation in Reykjavík. After settling in, spend the rest of the day getting acclimated to Iceland's unique atmosphere. It's a good time to rest up after your flight and prepare for the Ring Road journey ahead.
Drive northward through the Hvalfjarðar Tunnel toward Borgarnes and Skagafjörður Fjord, an area where horses actually outnumber people. You'll stop at Glaumbaer Folk Museum to see a traditional turf farmhouse and learn about rural Icelandic life. Later, cross the dramatic Öxnadalsheiði highland plateau with mountain views surrounding you before reaching Akureyri, North Iceland's capital.

Start exploring volcanic landscapes around Lake Mývatn by visiting Goðafoss, known as the Waterfall of the Gods. Check out the dramatic Dimmuborgir lava formations and pseudocraters at Skútustaðagaar. Then see Grjótagjá with its naturally heated thermal spring, walk through the steaming geothermal fields at Námaskarð, and stop at mighty Dettifoss. By evening, you'll cross the remote Mödrudalsöræfi highland desert and Jökuldalur Valley to reach Egilsstaðir.

Travel along Iceland's southeast coastline starting with an amphibian boat tour at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where icebergs float around you. Then head to Diamond Beach to see glistening icebergs on black sand. Drive through Vatnajökull National Park past Iceland's highest peak, over lava fields and black glacial plains. In Vík, see Reynisfjara's black sand beach with basalt columns and puffins in summer, plus the dramatic sea arch at Dyrholaey. Finish with two famous waterfalls: Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Visit majestic Gullfoss waterfall cascading into a rugged canyon, then the Geysir Geothermal Area with bubbling hot springs and Strokkur erupting every few minutes. Stop at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart, and see where the Alþingi Parliament was established in 930 AD.
